Signs
Printing is a multi level industry that is not going away anytime soon. Signs are one of those levels, and is a huge part of marketing. Technology is growing but Signs are still a staple in the marketing industry. Whether it be a huge billboard you see driving down the highway, or something as simple as a campaign sign driving down the back roads of Tennessee, signs are everywhere. We are here to give you a glimpse into our industry. We want you to get an idea of how signs are made so you know exactly what to order when you come into our shop.
Making a sign is a process. In order to get a great sign put together, your artwork needs to be flawless, if there is text it needs to be spelled correctly and in the right format, and of course you need the material to use. You cant simply put sharpie on cardboard and expect people to pay attention. Your artwork needs to be EYE CATCHING. See what i did there? Even before you took the dive into reading this article your eyes more than likely focused in on the red letters first. Your signs need to do the same thing. Make a statement with them, people need to be able to see the kind of person you are with your signs. Catch their attention and you can lock them in.
Not only is artwork an important factor, but also the text. You cant have too much and make people board with your sign, but you cant have too little and have them confused as to what your trying to get across. Remember: You have a specific audience no matter what you’re doing. Whether you are selling butterflies, or protesting in a big city, you have an audience. Create your wording to 1) Relate and connect to your audience, and 2) Create it in the perfect format where they don’t get bored or understand you.
Choosing the correct material for your sign is literally life or death. There are some factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing material. Factors such as: Is it indoor or outdoor? Is this a permanent sign, or seasonal (not permanent)? Material that you use indoors include Foam Board, Corrugated Plastic, and PVC. Outdoors you can use material such as Acrylic, Aluminum, Signabond, and Alumalite. The outdoor materials are more rugged and built to last where as the “indoor” material is more fragile and cant withstand the weather very well.
Remember: Your signs are a reflection of you. Take your time when creating your work of art and more than anything, just have fun with it. Our sign experts and designers here at Dicks Graphics and The Print Shop are very experienced and are more than happy to help you with all of your needs.
